Who we are

Our mission is to use football as a transformative platform to bridge gaps between communities, cultures, and societal divides. We believe in the profound impact of “the power of the ball” as an empowering tool for youth. Football can inspire, instil positive change, and build connections, transcending barriers of attitude, ability, and background. It offers a shared experience that fosters understanding and friendship across various divides. The essence of our foundation lies in this positive exchange of spirit and achievement.

Objectives for the Game of Stars

Launched in 2018 with Agri Limpopo, the Game of Stars initiative has the following enduring objectives:

Bridge cultural and societal divides.
Foster a sense of community through shared teamwork achievements.
Provide alternatives to addiction and gangsterism.
Reduce crime and attacks on farms.
Enhance labour relations and boost production.
Discover and nurture hidden football talent.
Offer a platform for rural communities to compete and gain recognition.
Establish a “hub of excellence” at a school to support emerging talent.

As Nelson Mandela once said, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair." (2000)

Future Vision (2020-2024)

In the coming years, our goals are to:

Formalize the initiative into a registered league, allowing farms to play regular games and qualify for district play-offs based on their season performance.

Train farm workers as qualified referees and First Aid responders, using them to maintain the integrity of the league and mitigate issues such as betting and cheating. An MFF coordinator will oversee matches for ethics and improvement.
Expand the tournament to other provinces, culminating in a national competition where provincial winners face off in a grand final.
Include youth teams from farm worker families and surrounding rural communities.
Launch holiday football coaching programs for youth in farming and rural areas.

To ensure the initiative's sustainability:

Seek anchor sponsorships, endorsements, and commendations from industries reliant on a thriving agricultural sector, encouraging them to allocate portions of their CSR or marketing budgets to support the initiative.

Attract international stakeholders focused on stability in the South African agricultural sector to invest in such initiatives.

Empower the Foundation to employ regional representatives who can more effectively drive sporting initiatives on farms and in rural communities.
